Filling nozzle geometry, product flow characteristics and dosing parameters should be selected according to the product properties, required fill volume and production speed.

Splash Control During Filling and Cup Transfer

Due to its low viscosity, soy sauce can splash both during filling and while the filled portion cups are transferred between machine stations. During dosing, excessive product velocity or an excessive distance between the filling nozzle and the product surface may disturb the liquid inside the cup, increasing the risk of splashing. After filling, rapid acceleration or deceleration of the indexing system may cause further product movement before sealing.

To minimise splashing, the filling process should maintain controlled product flow throughout the dosing cycle. The distance between the filling nozzle and the product surface should also be considered, particularly when filling small portion cups. During cup transfer, smooth indexing motion helps minimise unnecessary product movement before the sealing station.

Drip-Free Dosing

Because soy sauce is a low-viscosity product, the dosing system should provide positive product cut-off at the end of each filling cycle. Uncontrolled dripping may affect filling accuracy, increase the risk of product contamination on the cup sealing area, compromise seal integrity and reduce the appearance of the finished package.

The required cut-off performance should therefore be considered when selecting the filling system. Product contact components should also be manufactured from stainless steel grades suitable for handling high salt-content food products.

Dosing System Selection

Despite its low viscosity, soy sauce is typically filled using a volumetric piston dosing system, providing accurate and repeatable fill volumes for small portion cups. Depending on the application, the filling system may incorporate anti-drip filling nozzles to provide positive product cut-off at the end of each dosing cycle. Cup lifting or descending filling nozzles may also be incorporated to reduce the filling height and improve filling stability.
